Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Interfaith dialogue is essential for fostering peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding in diverse societies like Nigeria, where religious tensions often threaten social harmony. In Gusau Local Government, Zamfara State, religious-based newspapers have taken on the role of promoting interfaith dialogue by publishing content that emphasizes common values, addresses misconceptions, and highlights success stories of religious cooperation (Garba & Musa, 2024). These publications serve as platforms for religious leaders, scholars, and community members to share perspectives and engage in constructive discussions (Ahmed & Bello, 2023). By leveraging the credibility and reach of faith-based journalism, these newspapers contribute to conflict resolution, tolerance, and unity. This study examines the effectiveness of religious-based newspapers in promoting interfaith dialogue in Gusau, assessing their impact on readers’ attitudes, perceptions, and interactions.
